error in optimising the turbines

Posted by Monika chauhan at July 19. 2010

Hi,

I am new to Openwind and even to wind energy.

After uploading .wrg, .xyz, .tab and by creating a new layer with 15 wind turbines.

When I am optimising the site for the installed wind turbines, it is giving me an error like this:

"I cannot find a suitable WRG for turbine 1 of site WT site Layout. Please check your layer hierarchy and turbine hub heights"

So could you please tell me why it is giving a error like this.

My hierarchy is like this:

1. .wrg

and its child are

a. new site layout (where I have located the wind turbines)

b. .TAB file

c. and .XYZ file

so could you tell me where I am going wrong?

Thanks,

Monika

Hi Monika,

Is the hub height of the WRG the same as the hub height of the turbines you are using?

Hi Nick,

This is exactly the same problem/error message I keep receiving. In my case the WRG is supposed to be the newly created openwind map. How can you identify the hub height of the WRG (wind map) and compare with the hub height of the turbine??
In any case I have the BLB uploaded inn the incoming folder of your FTP.

Hi Charles,

Please re-read the tutorial and/or user manual - especially with respect to the search order which layers use to find other information. Your Site needs to be able to access your wind resource grid and in order to do that it needs to be part of the same hierarchy (i.e. one needs to be a child (grandchild etc) or parent (grandparent etc) of the other.

Also, you have created a wind map at 40m above ground level and a turbine type which has a 150m hub height. You need to have a WRG and turbine type with the same hub height.

Do all this and you will find that it runs fine.

Thanks so much. I am now beginning to understand what was wrong. My model design was correct but I realized the problem with the hub height and the height used in developing the wind map.  tried changing the hub height to 40m for now and the optimizer worked.
Thanks very much. Now everything is set in motion
