Noise input - Total sound power level at source [dB(A)]
Up to Using openWind
Hi Nick
A quick question on inputting noise levels for a turbine type.
The turbine manufacture gives the following:
98.9 dB(A) for 8m/s in 10m height
100.2 dB(A) for 10 m/s in 10m height
What value do you suggest that I choose to input as the “Total sound power level at source [dB(A)]”
regards
Matt

At 10m height? That seems awfully loud.
I would choose the 100.2 dB(A) because noise calculations are always worst case. However, you normally would input the noise level at 1m from the turbine nacelle. For this, you will need to back calculate from where the measurement was taken to 1m from the turbine nacelle.
I should add something for this.

Re: Noise input - Total sound power level at source [dB(A)]
As per the norms "10m height" accounts for the height at which the wind speed is measured.
100.2 dB(A) is the standard noise level at 1m from the turbine nacelle corresponding to this measured wind speed.
I hope this helps.

Re: Noise input - Total sound power level at source [dB(A)]
I am similarly doing this aspect for a V112 turbine:
3 m/s 94.7 dB (A)
4 m/s 97.3 dB (A)
5 m/s 100.9 dB (A)
6 m/s 104.3 dB (A)
7 m/s 106.0 dB (A)
8 m/s 106.5 dB (A)
I presume I shall then input the 106.5 dB (8m/s) reading for total sound power level? I have yet to see a turbine brochure that states 'A-weighed Octave Band Sound Power Levels' - anyone come across one? Out of interest, what are the actual inputs into the fields for this option?

Any takers on the issue I posted above? Noise Power levels taken from:

These are taken at 10m above the ground, not the actual sound source at hub height.
