Contour and roughness maps conversion from WAsP
Up to Using openWind
Hi
I'm new to OpenWind and wind farm design tools in general
I have recently been given a .scl .map and a JPG image of a wind farm site, I'm assuming these are WAsP files?
Is there any method of converting these for use with OpenWind?
Thanks,
Martin

Hi Martin,
I don't know what an SCL file is but you can load the MAP into openWind although it will only recognise the terrain contours at this point. The JPG can be loaded as an image layer so long as you know it's bounding rectangle in either UTM or geographic.
If you haven't already read through the tutorial then you should definitely do that.
Also, I would look at getting your own terrain and roughness data off the web. If you are in Canada or the US all this data is freely available. It is much better to use a DEM than a contour file as contours tend to be ambiguous.

Hi Nick
Thanks for that, I've worked through the tutorials but I am not entirely sure how to load a .map file into open wind?
I'm assuming its some kind of raster file however when I point openwind to its directory it does not pick it up. I've tried all the other options as well (vector layer etc.
Any tips?
Thanks,
Martin
