Shapefile Attribute Support

Posted by Nathaniel E. Vandal at January 23. 2009

Nick,

I was hoping to make a request for the inclusion of additional attributes to the shapefile export of a turbine layout.  It would be really great to be able to include the results from the optimizer, or at least from an energy test as attributes to the shapefile field.  This would really allow users to visualize and and play with layouts in ArcGIS.  As it is currently, you can test and then plot the X,Ys which works but is a bit slower.  Maybe there could be an option in the results of an energy test to export a shapefile as well...

The more I get to use this program the more excited I get about its practicality.  I only wish I could help with the programming... :)

Cheers,

Nathaniel

Hi Nathaniel,

Thanks for reminding me. Allowing users to automatically expand the shapefile attributes has been at the back of my mind for a while.

I will do it but right now I'm in the middle of: implementing a windflow model; implementing a new richer binary WRG format; adding environmentally sensitive points (yes Costas, they're coming) and adding such constraints to the optimiser. In my spare time I am also looking at noise and shadow flicker :)

Basically, its on my list but if you don't see it in the next release, please feel free to remind me again.

Related to this topic, if a DEM that is in .shp format can be exported into x-y-z, then that will be helpful also.

I believe this is already in. I try to detect regularly spaced vector point layers and ask if you want to convert them to raster layer. can you give me more details or an example please?

Nick, have you made any progress on the attribute request? I find my self exporting endless turbine layouts to ArcView and scrambling to figure out which turbine is which. At the very least, it'd be useful to have the turbine numbers.

Thanks for your hard and excellent work.
