google earth error

Posted by David Osmond at May 31. 2009

Hi Nick,

thanks again for a great program.  Here's one problem I seem to be having.  When exporting a turbine layer as a google earth file, the turbines always ends up in the northern hemisphere.  I set the mapping projection before creating or loading the file, and while it gets the zone corect, it always puts the turbines up in the northern hemisphere.

regards,

Dave

hmmm, not done any testing in the southern hemisphere. Don't have any data for it. Any chance you can send me a data source or a workbook so I can play with it please? (you can post anonymously to ftp.awsopenwind.org or email me)

Nick,

I also ran into the same issue attempting to load a turbine layout in the Southern Hemisphere. While the shapefiles load into openWind correctly in the Southern Hemispheric coordinate system they are projected in, the export to KML writes the lat/lons of each WTG into the Northern Hemisphere. The latitude isn't the positive inverse either. If Dave did not send you a test file on this issue, let me know and I can also send data over to test.

Yes please. If you email when its there I can take it straight off although its a secure one-way upload in any case.

cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick, I've just placed a shape file in the folder incoming/Dave, CapitalTest.  It contains a few points in Australia near Canberra (zone 55S, E: ~726000, N: ~6107000)

Regarding the error, it just seems to ignore the hemisphere setting in the Global Settings.  It gets the zone, eastings and northings correct, but the hemisphere wrong.

cheers Dave
