Growing Layouts Not Growing

Posted by Jared L. Kassebaum at April 13. 2010

I'm currently running some optimizations which I've set to add turbines given a certain capacity factor.  I have confirmed that the layouts are set to allow turbines to be added and the capacity factor (and array losses) is well above the limit I've set.  How can I determine what is preventing my layout from growing?

Send it to me and I will tell you

ftp.awsopenwind.org

and let me know when it is there. I imagine there is not enough room. The growing has to stop sometime. Also you need to start with at least one turbine.

wow... I'm baffled that you can't grow a turbine layout that doesn't exist!  Come on Nick, you can do better than that!!  ;)

In all seriousness, it is a large project, about 300 turbines.  There is TONS of space left to add turbines, and the NCF is still higher than the target by 5% - ish.  Jared will send you the workbook, but maybe it's fixed in the new release. Is there a maximum number of turbines allowed with the growing layout option? (other than the one we set on our own?)

Too bad we missed you at EWEC.  What a pesky little volcanic eruption!

You made it there? How? Did it feel empty? I don't know anyone who made it.

I am about to post a new version of the software. It's just minor improvements but getting more stable and well-behaved all the time. Can you post your site (under a suitably vague alias) onto my ftp site and I will take a look?

Actually we didn't make it.  Alex and I both made it to Chicago and had to turn around.  Super lame.

So I went back and tried to find one of the layouts that wouldn't grow.  I am pretty sure I found one and have posted it on your ftp. This particular site, there isn't a TON of more space, but there definitely is some space and no turbines have added.

The file is in /incoming/New Folder.
