Call for wake models

Posted by nick at January 30. 2008

We are currently looking for alternatives to the modified Park wake model. Please post any suggestions, equations or links relating to the subject.

Hey Nick,

I am currently working on a simulation that uses the modified wake model. I do not understand in which part of the programming does it take into consideration multiple wake affecting one turbine. It just says that it takes a the sum of the squares of the overlap factor and decides the total overlap factor. But supposing it each wake affects only part of the total overlap area. How does it work then. Do you have any clue.

Regards,

Naveen.

Where does it say this please? I have very successfully reproduced the Modified Park wake model in openWind and I didn't use this method. I take the largest single wake effect to determine the incident windspeed at any given turbine and then in order to calculate the wake of that turbine I assume the freestream windspeed but use the incident windspeed to determine the thrust coefficient. Overlap is done on a straight fraction of the overlap in the Y direction (assuming that the wind is travelling along the X axis). Please take a look at the validation and theory manual in the downloads section. Its all in there.

Nick
