Micro-Micrositing

Posted by nick at February 27. 2008

This forum is intended to be a place where we post clever little tricks that we've discovered that we can do in OpenWIND. I'll start us off with a couple.

For those sites where your client wants you to optimise their layout but you're only allowed to move each turbine 50m or less from its current position:

  • step 1 - import the current turbine positions from a shape file and convert the shape file to a turbine layout by right-clicking on the resulting point layer.
  • step 2 - import the same turbine positions again and this time leave them as a point layer.
  • step 3 - make the point layer a child of the site layer containing the turbine positions.
  • step 4 - in the properties of the point layer go to the Parent Logic tab and define the parent validity as being inside the point plus a buffer of 50m.
  • step 5 - in the properties of the site layer go to the Child Logic tab and select "-ve" as the way it is affected by the point layer.
  • step 6 - now start the optimiser.

p.s. if it doesn't work, please let me know :)

Nick
