wind speed calculation

Posted by Matteo Ranaboldo at March 25. 2009

Hello to every body,

I'm a new user and I have a simple question (I hope) for experienced users.

I would like to do a quick comparison between Openwind and windfarmer, and I would like to see mean wind speed at different turbin locations.

I have entered the map, the wrg, the tab and the associated. Then I create e new latout with the turbines locations.

In the turbines propoerties it shows zero mean speed velocities at all the turbines sites.

I try to run the optimiser but it tells me "I cannot find a suitable WRG for turbine 1 of site New Layout. Please check your layer hierarchy and turbine hub heights.". So it doesn't show any result.

Which is the simplest way to see turbine velocities?

Is it necesary to run the optimiser? Or is there another way?

Thank you very much for your time.

Regards,

Matteo Ranaboldo

Hi Matteo,

You need to run either the optimiser or the energy capture.

Did you work through the tutorial? openWind is very different to other WRA softwares. Its much more powerful but that power comes at a price and that price is a steep but short initial learning curve. Spend an hour working through the tutorial and all will be clear. Alternatively, post your workbook to ftp.awsopenwind.org and I'll take a look at it. Otherwise, I would just need to reproduce the tutorial here.

Hi Nick,

thank you very much for your quick answer. I have been out for 10 ten days and I just read your message.
I tried to follow the tutorial but it tells me "Turbine 1 of Site New Layout does not have access to an appropriate WRG". I don't understand why because the layer with the turbine site is a child of the WRG.
I can't uplaod my workbook in the ftp, can you tell me how to post it there?
If not I could send it by email, mine is: matteo.ranaboldo@yahoo.it
I would be very pleased if you can check my workspace.

Thank you very much for your disponibility.

Regards,
Matteo
